Friday 24th April 2020

A good morning to you. Thank you for all the work you are completing. You have worked so hard for us this week and you are thinking of some really creative ways to learn, like using real objects to work out groups of numbers and even drawing round your body shape to help you to label the parts of the body. We think you are all amazing and we are really missing you!

Here are today's activities! Work hard and have fun! After this you can relax and enjoy the weekend and the lovely weather. Stay safe and look after yourselves!

We are thinking of you all.

Love from Mrs Craddock, Mrs Darnton and Mrs Stow smiley

TIMES TABLES ROCKSTARS

Firstly today we would like you to spend 15 minutes practising your times tables. See if you can beat your own times. You could even set challenges. Remember that your times tables can help you with dividing too, like 10 ÷ 2 means how many 2s are in 10 so you can use your 2 times tables to work out the answer.

Now you have warmed up your brains, you are ready for maths...

MATHS

Secondly today we would like you to complete the next two lessons from Summer Term Week 1, Lessons 3 and 4. Remember that you can print out the sheets and the answer sheets are there if your parents want them. The lesson are all about sharing and finding half. A great idea to help you would be to use objects like counters or cubes or even lego bricks to work out the answers first. Don't forget to watch the short film clips first to help you.

HANDWRITING

Begin your next lesson by practising some letters and words in your best cursive handwriting. Practise words from the word list below. You can print it out and use it each time you do handwriting. The list will also come in useful when you do any writing and you could even try to learn how to spell these words if you ever finish other work and want an extra task.

We have also put on the cursive alphabet again too. (Make sure you know your alphabet. This is something else you could practise if you have spare time!)

Word mat to print out to help you with your spellings and your handwriting practice.

Use this Powerpoint to help you to form your cursive letters properly

WRITING

Each Friday we will be setting you a writing task. We would like you to do this in a similar way to how we do guided writing in class. (I am REALLY missing teaching you guided writing!)

We will introduce the task first and then tell you what to write. Try to aim to write about one to one and a half sides of your page. Think about each sentence before you write it and say it out loud before you write it down. Then read it again before you move onto your next sentence. Check for mistakes and correct them as you go along.

REMEMBER: THINK, SAY, WRITE, CHECK, CORRECT!

•I can remember capital letters to begin a new sentence and for names of people and places.

•I can use a full stop as soon as my sentence makes sense.

•I can try my best with spellings. I can use phonics to help me to sound out words (robot arms!)

•I can try to use a simple dictionary or my word mat to help with spellings.

•I can use my best cursive handwriting too.

•I can use 'and', 'but' and 'so' in a sentence like I did in my Purple Mash grammar activity.

TASK:

Now that you have practised your handwriting, this week I would like you to retell the story of the Selfish Crocodile that we started in the last week of school. Listen to and follow the story below first.

Use these pictures to help you to write your story. Print them, cut them out and stick them in your book like we do in class. Try to write one or two sentences for each picture.

ACTIVE LEARN READING

Make sure that today you set some time aside to read one of your Active Learn reading books. Don't forget there are questions there too to make sure you've understood the book. Do this for at least 15 minutes daily.

You could read your own real books as well if you want to! It's a great thing to do just before you go to bed!
