Remote Learning
Remote Education for Parents and Carers
This page provides information for parents, carers and pupils about the remote education that can be provided at St Matthew's CE. The remote learning can occur where potential local or national restrictions ask that cohorts or whole school must stay at home. The remote learning education at St Matthew's is carefully structured and sequenced to ensure that children progress and build on prior learning as if they were in school.
The Remote Curriculum
The remote curriculum/ remote learning is any learning happeneing outside of the classroom with the teacher not in the same location as the children. The way remote learning is delivered will vary depending upon the age of the children, individual learners and the stage of learning each child is at. At St Matthew's, online learning will be delievered via Microsoft Teams and will be mostly made up of 'live lessons'. This will be further supported through use of additional online resources such as Class Dojo, Purple Mash, Timetable Rockstars etc.
Example Timetable
A timetable will be provided and shared with all parents, carers and children covering curriculum subjects and time for small group discussion and feedback between teachers and pupils. Please see example timetable below.
How will your child be taught remotely?
In the event of a school closure:
Teachers available from 8.30-3.30 live teaching/ responding to messages/ providing feedback.
Live lessons taught daily sharing screens and providing safe links to video resources.
Allowing pupil participation in lessons via chat if appropriate or through break out rooms.
Creating personlaised timetables for children to access their learning.
Providing feedback on work and an opportunity to speak to pupils on a small group scale through the week.
Contacting parents should children not be taking part in live lessons and remote learning and offer support if needed.
Engagement and Feedback
Children are expected to attend online Teams live lessons with teachers and to complete work set. At St Matthew's, we will follow up any remote absences. Timetables will be shared setting out lessons and timings of the day. Children are able to contact their teachers at any point during the live lessons and to ask for support in their learning.
If a child is not engaging in remote learning the class teacher will contact parents through Teams or via phonecall. Should the issue continue, the concern will pass to SLT/ attendance lead/ welfare lead within school. If children are struggling to access the online learning, please ensure class teachers are contacted ASAP.
Pupils will recieve daily feedback on the work they have completed via teams. Teachers will comment or mark the work that has been set each day. Through the week, small group feedback sessions will be set at the end of each day where children can discuss their learning and raise any issues or questions that they have with class teachers.
