Year 1
Autumn 1 2026-2027
Dear children and adults,
Welcome back to you all and to a very exciting term in Year 1. The Year 1 team are looking forward to seeing all the children in their new class. We hope that you have had a restful and enjoyable Summer and are ready to start your learning journey in Year 1.
The team have put together some notices which may help you to get ready.
Notices and polite reminders
Labels
Please ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled so that we are able to match up mislaid items quickly.
Water bottles
All children will need to bring a water bottle to school daily so that they can access a drink as required.
Reading book bags and reading record book
Reading book bags need to be in school everyday. We will use these bags as a way to send home contact letters and homework folders.
Please complete the reading record book when you read with your child so that they are able to earn rewards.
Home reading should be completed 3x per week, but the more you read the better! The record book will be checked every Friday morning.
Homework
English or Maths homework will be sent home on a Tuesday and will need to be returned by the following Monday.
Spelling Homework will be sent home on a Friday and needs to be returned by the following Thursday. There will be a spelling test each Friday morning.
PE
PE will be on a Wednesday and Friday. Children need to come to school wearing their PE kit and suitable trainers.
Phonics
In June next year, children will take a phonics test. Below are some useful websites to help you support your child.
Curriculum Maps and Knowledge Organisers

Dojo's
We appreciate that there is a lot of information to absorb. The year 1 team is committed to helping your child transition to Year 1 successfully and settle quickly. Please ask if you need any clarification or help.
Dojo messages are an option for contacting school directly. These are checked within school hours. Alternatively, a member of the Year 1 team will meet you and your child each morning for any quick messages.
We look forward to a happy and wonderful year for the children.
