Year 6

Curriculum Overview Spring: What will we be learning?

Spring Term

Welcome back Class 6. I can't believe it is Spring already. I am so excited for the days to get longer and warmer and for all of the signs of new life that will spring up (pun intended!) in no time.

Please take a god look at the overview for this half term to see all of the learning we will undertake over the next few month. What a jam packed and exciting term we have ahead of us!

Home Reading

Please continue to complete at least 3 reads per week at home, it is so important! These can be completed independently or with a family member or friend. Please remember to log this in your reading diaries and have this signed by an adult before Thursday when they will now be checked.

SATs

This term, as we head towards the SATs, there will be lots of learning and preparation. There will be opportunities for parents and children to attend a SATs workshop to outline what the week will entail and what to expect. There will also be some additional learning sessions before and after school which some children will be invited to. However, the most important thing to remember is to try your best and give 100% effort to everything you do, which you are all so amazing at already!

Curriculum Overview Autumn: What will we be learning?

Autumn Term

Welcome to Year 6 - your final year of primary school!

We are going to have a fantastic year together filled with lots of amazing opportunities and experiences to share. It will also be an extremely busy year, covering many topics and completing many extra-curricular activities as well!

It is my job to not only prepare you for SATs but most importantly to prepare you for high school, where you will need to demonstrate an increased amount of independence. This will ensure that your transition to high school is seamless.

Upcoming trip:

To support our learning in history, we will visit the Cheshire Military Museum in Chester on 14th October. We will take part in lots of activities, including analysing archives, practicing procedures for air raids and visiting a purpose build trench.

PE

PE will take place on a Friday with our sports coach Mr Aspinall. The year will consist of games activities, health and fitness activities, dance and gymnastics. Children will come in wearing their PE kits on a Friday.

Homework

Children should read at least 3 times per week. On a Tuesday, maths, grammar or reading comprehension homework will be given out. This should be handed in on the following Monday at the latest. Reading diaries should be written in each time you have read and signed by an adult. These will be collected and checked on a Friday morning. Finally, spellings plus the activity should be completed each week. A test will be held each Monday morning linking to the corresponding week.

Topic homework will continue as normal, once per half term, although around SATS time we will take a break from this due to revision.

Homework club will run on a Tuesday lunchtime for those of you who have any questions or need additional time to complete your tasks.  This will give you a head start on homework each week and will get you into a good routine ready for high school.

As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
