A big welcome back to Class 1!
We hope you had a lovely summer holiday and can't wait to hear all your news.
We are really excited to be teaching you this year. We have lots of interesting topics for you and we know you will love the learning that we have planned.
You will be reading lots of books in our class and we hope you will do plenty of reading at home too. Don't forget to fill in your reading records daily so we can see what you have read.
This term, you will be finding out about materials in science, toys in history and your local area in geography. We will even program our Bee-bots to help us to learn about direction.
For those of you who like to be creative, we will be finding out about an artist called Arcimboldo and you will learn how to makes flaps and hinges in DT.
If music is your thing, then you will love our exciting new music curriculum. It will be fabulous to be able to sing a lot more too!
Ms Chalmers is really pleased that she will have the chance to see you blossom and grow in Year 1. She will be teaching PE to you and PSHE too, where you will learn about staying safe.
Here is our curriculum for Year 1 showing the key questions we will be exploring...
PE will be on a Wednesday so make sure you have your PE kit in school at all times. When we do games, you will need something warm to put over your PE kit too. Make sure EVERYTHING is named. It makes our PE lessons so much easier!
Homework will go home each Tuesday and will need to be returned on or before the following Monday. We will alternate English and maths. It should take around 15 - 20 minutes to complete and will be linked to our work in class.
Spellings will go home each Friday and will be tested on a Friday too. Phonics lessons will take place daily.
We know you will all be amazing this year and hope you are very happy. If there are any problems, please let us know and we will be happy to help you.
