Christmas Tree Festival

We have been working very hard as a school on our understanding of spirituality. This half term, we have been focusing on 'Pow' which is when we are empowered to make a difference. Our Christmas tree at the Christmas tree festival in church shows our class Pows- acts of kindness and joy we have completed this Christmas.

As part of this, pupils have hidden lovely items in the community, made cards for residents in care homes, made acrostic poems for people in our school community and so much more. it has been a joy to see and we are really grateful to have a tree in the annual Christmas tree festival amongst our fellow community trees.

Care Home Collection

A big thank you to our amazing school community who have worked hard and shown such great generosity for our local care home. Parents, carers, staff and children have all sent in items for Christmas for our local care home. School council and Miss Chalmers worked incredibly hard to bag up these items and in total we had 15 bags.

A big thank you again to our incredible community for helping to spread some festive cheer!

Remembrance Service and Poppy Selling

The children took part in the St Matthew's Church Remembrance Service both on Sunday and as a whole school on Tuesday 11th November. Some of the children from our ethos group read special prayers and lay out a wreath as part of our school community. The children sang songs of respect and then shared their two minute silence together.

Prior to our service, the Year 6 children sold poppies to the children in school on behalf of the Royal British Legion. The funds collected will directly support the Royal British Legion's work for serving personnel, veterans and their families. Well done to the Year 6 children for supporting selling the poppies and thank you to families for helping us support our wider community through donations.

Collecting for Our Local Food Bank

As part of our Harvest service in Church, children and families kindly donated food for our local food bank. The food bank came to collect the items and were delighted with all of the donations. We love supporting our community at St Matthew's. A big thank you to families who helped to support these donations.

At St Matthew’s we have taken time to reflect on the importance of Remembrance. Our beautiful display has been a whole school, eco-friendly project.

The Digital Leaders have been busy creating posters about our Digital Footprints! They are working incredibly hard through the Digital Leader modules and sharing the information with their peers.

Our Eco Council have been working so hard and we are thrilled to have achieved our Eco Schools Silver Award!
