Vision and Values

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be confident, happy citizens.

Work Together           Aim High        Shine Bright

Vision Statement: “To create and nurture a secure and caring Christian environment where every child can develop in their own faith and learning journey.”

“Let the little children come to me for it is to such as these that the Kingdom of God belongs.” Mark 10 (14-15)

Our aims are directed towards preparing each child for life beyond St Matthew’s.  To accomplish this we aspire to:

  • Offer an education based upon Christian aims and values.

  • Develop a supportive school and classroom climate and ethos which build a sense of connectedness, focus and purpose, the acceptance of emotion and vulnerability, warm relationships and the celebration of difference.
  • Provide a curriculum that is:

    - relevant to each child’s experience;

    - balanced across a range of experiences that make an equal contribution to the child’s development;

    - broad in the range of opportunities and experiences which it provides.

  • Ensure equal opportunity for every child to realise his/her maximum potential, spiritually, emotionally, physically, socially, creatively and academically.

  • Develop high self-expectations and a delight in achieving, encouraging the acquisition of self-responsibility, confidence and independence in learning within a secure, happy working environment.

  • Promote respect for the abilities, skills, feelings and needs of others; help children to respect how people are different and celebrate diversity.

  • Prepare each child for the opportunities and responsibilities of adult life, enabling them to make a positive contribution to society.

At St Matthew's we strive to ensure that we work well with parents and carers to achieve positive benefits for our children.  We will regularly asks parents and carers for their views and ensure that these are used to inform important decisions about whole school matters.

We work hard to keep parents and carers well informed about their children’s achievements, well-being and development and we have clear and accessible channels for parents and carers to communicate with us.  We have an 'open-door' policy and would encourage you to communicate any concerns, or issues you may have with us as soon as possible.

  • Information for parents is provided through our website, weekly newsletters, letters, text messaging, emails, telephone, children's Home-School Diaries, termly parents' meetings with teachers,  information evenings and workshops.  If you have ideas for improving our communication systems please let us know!

  • Opportunities to ask questions, express your views and opinions are given at Parent Focus Group meetings, termly meetings for parents & teachers and we would encourage you to come into school to talk to us as often as possible.  Sometimes we may be busy teaching, but we will always contact you as soon as we can.

  • Support your children's learning by attending information evenings and parent meetings, use your child's Home-School Diary, check home learning guidance which is posted regularly on your child's class page on the school website, look at the maths calculation videos accessible on the maths page on our website, your child’s targets will be shared with you termly so please ask if you are unsure what they mean!

  • Join in with our celebrations - come along to class assemblies, special celebration assemblies and church services, our informal coffee mornings and special performances and events such as Sports' Day, St Matthew's Has Talent, Nativities & productions from Reception, KS1 & Y5/6. Our school website is packed full of photographs showing what the children (and staff) have been doing!  We post our House Points each week so find out which House is leading and help us celebrate the children's successes.

St. Matthew’s welcomes parents and carers as partners so that, together, we can promote high standards of learning, behaviour and attitudes to enable every child to be the very best that they can be.
