DESIGN TECHNOLOGY (DT) CURRICULUM STATEMENT
Through our teaching of the Design Technology curriculum at St Matthew’s, we aim to help children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to design, make and evaluate products fit for a purpose. It is our intention to teach them practical skills, encourage them to work with a wide range of materials and components and help them develop an understanding of control systems, energy and structures.
In our increasingly technological, global world we want our children to become aware of the impact of technology and its contribution to our societies and have the confidence to help shape and structure them.
We want our children to apply their knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users. We recognise the importance of critique and evaluation and so want children to test their ideas and products and the work of others. We want our children to be healthy, to understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook so that they develop this crucial life skill that will enable them to feed themselves and others affordably and well, now and in later life.
