27th April 2020 - Phonics Resources

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend and that you were able to enjoy some time outside in the sunshine!

The Department of Education have today launched an online Letters and Sounds channel and created lessons for home/school, suitable for Reception and Year 1 children. This resource is designed by experts for use by parents, carers and teachers during the Covid-19 period.

New lessons will be uploaded every week day at the following times:

10am – Reception (suitable for children who can blend and read words such as ‘fish’, ‘chat’ and ‘rain’

10.30am – Year 1 (suitable for children who can confidently blend and read words such as ‘stamp’, ‘chair’ and ‘green’.

11am – ‘Learning to Blend’ – extra blending practise for children in Reception and Year 1.

You can access the channel here:

The channel has been designed to help keep children’s phonics learning on track. It is a 12 week programme that will last the duration of the summer term. There is no pressure to access this resource but I just wanted to make you aware that it is available should you choose to use it.

I thought the children might like to take part in a project, led by Chester Diocese. This week the DBE (Diocesan Board of Education) are launching the ‘Worship Song Challenge’. Children can choose their favourite school worship song (perhaps their favourite song to sing in assembly) or a verse/line from the song as a theme to create a piece of art, a drawing, a painting, a poem, a photo, a short film or anything else that your children can think of – it really is up to you! Their work may then be showcased over the coming weeks on the Diocese of Chester website so, if you would like to get involved, please send your contributions into school and we will pass them on! We will add a new section on our school website in the ‘gallery’ to share your work with our school community!

Finally, should you require any additional exercise books, there will be some outside of school in a box each day stationed outside the main entrance. You are welcome to come and collect an additional exercise book from there should you need one.

Take care and enjoy your evening,

Miss Hill
