15th June 2020 - Helping children feel more connected to school

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you and your families are well and managing in whatever circumstances you find yourself in as lockdown restrictions ease for the majority, also remembering those who still need to stay protected and are in isolation.  We send you all our very best wishes.

We have been delighted to welcome increasing numbers of children into school today and anticipate managing further additional changes next week when Y1 return to the school building and we hope to be able to accept other children back as soon as possible – dependent upon social distancing restrictions relaxing; which (perhaps) seems imminent?  Please do let school know asap if you have a child in Y1 and you haven't already let us know if you want them to return to school on Monday.

As previously mentioned in my emails to parents, we are increasing the level of support for those children who still remain at home.  I have explained that we are keen to offer support, as much as we can, and I have listed below the support we have the capacity for and the individual support that you may request for you, or your child, should you need it.

+ Teachers are now making 'voice notes' on some of each child's work on Purple Mash, in addition to typed messages
+ Class 'blogs' which all children in the class can participate in (by messaging) will be led by Mrs Pawson, Mrs Hazeldine and Miss Hill
+ Mrs McClellan and I will be uploading short videos each day with a daily message, onto the school website - you can see our first message here: - https://www.stmatthewsceprimary.com/class-pages/
+ Eileen is making a video each day for the children which will be uploaded to the school website https://www.stmatthewsceprimary.com/class-pages/ - watch her video each day as you start the day and hopefully this will help with your well-being
+ Some staff will read chapters of books for the children and the videos will be uploaded https://www.stmatthewsceprimary.com/class-pages/
+ Mrs Watson will support for families who need support (please email school if you would welcome a chat with her - she works Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays
+ some parents have requested packs of work for their children as they can't access the home learning on the website will continue to receive them - please let us know if you would prefer this option.
+ daily work set and uploaded by teachers

Finally, I have attached a letter from Linda Buckley for you and I do hope that I can advise you about more children returning to school soon,

Mrs Fryman
