Year 5

Malham 2018

Friday 25th May 2018

Thank-you so much Class 5 for all of your hard work this half term! Over the holidays, please begin to practise your lyrics for the end of year production as we will need to memorise the words ready for rehearsals once we are back in school.

Also, don't forget to bring your information/research in by Wednesday 13th June all about how volcanoes erupt to help you with your writing in English.

Have a lovely half term - stay safe and enjoy yourselves!

In science, we have been looking at parts of a flower. This morning, we looked inside a lily and annotated the different parts we have been learning about and their functions... Here are some photographs showing how we got on! smiley

Reading

A quick reminder to make sure you read each evening at home with a parent/guardian or independently and that you record your reading in your home/school diary. Below is a list of Year 5 recommended reads - have a look through the different books to see if there are any you like! I'm looking forward to hearing about the books you have read!

Class 5 played their guitars for their first audience last week... Well done Class 5!

Cheshire Fire Service - 28.11.17

This morning John and Tony came in to school to talk to us about fire safety at home. We watched a safety video with lots of useful hints and tips. They told us that our smoke detectors at home should be checked once a month and that we should sit with our families to create a fire exit plan. We went into the smoke tent outside and got down low once the tent was filled with smoke to escape.

Anti-Bullying Week

This week we have done lots of activities and had class discussions all about bullying. We talked about what bullying is and what we think it means and spoke about the different types of bullying. We looked at different scenarios and thought about what advice we might give and how people who are being bullied can get help.

We created some posters about the different aspects of bullying which we presented in our whole school assembly on Friday afternoon.

Here are some photos of our anti-bullying work:

A relaxing Friday morning! 17.11.17

RAF Heritage Centre Burtonwood 6.11.17

On Monday, we visited the RAF Heritage Centre as part of our topic work on World War Two. We found out about the war in Warrington and our local area, rationing, evacuation and what life was life during the war for children. We even got the chance to go on an old WW2 aircraft!! We had a great time and learnt lots of new information to help up with our work on the war!
